Rotation Sensor Challenge

Rotation sensors are very important in the field of engineering because they track and measure the motion of rotating objects. The NXT motors and EV3 large motors have built- in rotation sensors that are accurate enough for most purposes, but what if you need something even more accurate?

How can you design and construct a better rotation sensor? (i.e. one that is more accurate and precise than the ones built-in to the NXT and EV3 motors?)

What is the smallest angle that you can measure accurately and repeatably?

Tip 1: Is there a way to mark the end of each revolution?

Tip 2: Is there any relationship between the time duration of each revolution and the angular velocity?
